The matric results for the Class of 2024 have been released, and the achievements are truly noteworthy. With an impressive pass rate of 87.3%, this year’s matriculants have surpassed expectations, showing a significant improvement over 2023's results.

The Matric Class of 2024 has much to celebrate, with an impressive 87.3% matric pass rate. This marks a significant improvement of 4.4% compared to the 82.9% achieved by the Class of 2023.

Matric results are now accessible to candidates both at their examination centres and online.

How to Check Your Matric Results Online

Follow these simple steps to view your matric results online:

  1. Visit the Department of Education's matric results page.
  2. Enter your examination number.
  3. Provide any additional personal details required.
  4. Click Search.
  5. Your matric results will appear on the screen.

The Minister for the Department of Basic Education (DBE), Siviwe Gwarube, announced:

At a provincial level, I’m pleased to announce that every province improved on it’s performance from 2023 and every province has achieved above 84% pass rate.

Provincial Matric Pass Rates

Here's a breakdown of the provincial matric pass rates for 2024:

  • Free State: 91%
  • KwaZulu-Natal: 89.5%
  • Gauteng: 88.4%
  • North West: 87.5%
  • Western Cape: 86.6%
  • Limpopo: 85.1%
  • Mpumalanga: 84.9%
  • Eastern Cape: 84.98%
  • Northern Cape: 84.2%

The final matric exams began on Monday, 21 October, and concluded on Thursday, 28 November 2024.
A total of 832,993 public school candidates sat for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams, covering 150 subjects.

The Class of 2024 achieved an impressive 319,651 distinctions. “This represents a significant increase of over 65 000 distinctions from last year. Some of these increases were seen in key subjects, including Mathematics. I am pleased to report that every province increased the number of distinctions achieved in 2023," said the Minister.

While the Education Minister announced provincial results and acknowledged the top-performing learners across various subjects and quintiles, individual school results were not disclosed.
