For TVET College students, allowance payments continue to be made directly to student bank accounts. Students are urged to update their bank details on the myNSFAS portal.

For University students, due to an ongoing court case, universities will continue to disburse allowances directly to students in 2025. NSFAS hopes to soon start disbursing allowances straight to students' personal bank accounts.

The exact allowance amounts for 2025 have not yet been announced. Higher Education Minister Nobuhle Nkabane is expected to reveal this information during the state of readiness speech for the upcoming academic year.

A significant R3.7 billion will be disbursed to universities in January 2025 to ensure timely allowance payments, especially for Health Science students who typically start earlier. This represents 10% of the projected R37 billion budget for the 2025 academic year.

Over R640 million (20% of tuition funds) will be allocated to TVET colleges by 10 January 2025.
