The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has confirmed the final NSFAS application dates for the 2024 academic year. TVET College students can apply for NSFAS funding from the government bursary scheme, depending on the type of qualification they're studying towards.
NSFAS offers comprehensive bursaries and student loans to eligible students enrolled in approved courses at public universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges.
While NSFAS applications for university students is closed and university students cannot apply for NSFAS funding for the 2024 academic year, students enrolled in approved courses at TVET colleges can.
NSFAS Funding for TVET Colleges in 2024
Students enrolling in select programmes at TVET colleges in 2024 can apply for NSFAS funding this year. NSFAS confirmed the 2024 application dates.
The purpose of this communique is to advise TVET colleges of the opening and closing dates for TVET NSFAS applications for the remaining cycles of the 2024 academic year.
The 2024 NSFAS application dates for TVET Colleges are as follows:
- Trimester 2 to open from 13 May 2024 and close on 31 May 2024
- Semester 2 to open from 9 July 2024 and close on 26 July 2024
- Trimester 3 to open from 2 September 2024 and close on 20 September 2024
NSFAS explained that these application periods were aligned closely to the academic calendar allowing students to apply for funding when they start their application.
How To Apply For NSFAS
The application process remains the same as the first cycle of 2024. Students can apply online through the NSFAS website for the specific academic cycle they intend to register in.
The opening and closing dates for 2024 NSFAS TVET Walk-In applications are aligned as closely as possible to the TVET academic calendar as issued by the Department of Higher Education and Training Colleges that are participating in the Centres of Specialisation programmes, should encourage participating students to also apply during the available application window.
Colleges participating in Centres of Specialisation programmes are encouraged to inform students about these application windows. Students are encouraged to refer to the Department of Higher Education and Training for the TVET academic calendar.
