The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has announced the allowance payment structure for January 2025.

NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving learners enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. NSFAS funding covers tuition and registration fees, as well as several allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials.

Allowances for TVET College Students

TVET college students receive an annual living allowance of R10,000. Learning material allowances vary based on the courses undertaken.

Students with disabilities benefit from additional provisions, including higher living allowances and supplementary learning material funds. However, certain conditions apply, such as allowances being granted only during simulated training for specific programmes.

No January Allowance Payments

NSFAS allocates allowances in 10 instalments per academic year, meaning no payments are made in January.

Typically, the academic year runs from February to November, during which NSFAS disburses monthly allowances. December and January are excluded from payments, aligning with the academic calendar.

Students can expect their first allowance payment of the 2025 academic year in February.

How TVET College Allowances Will Be Paid In 2025

NSFAS confirmed the continuation of its direct allowance payment system for TVET College students in 2025. This system, successfully implemented in 2024, ensures that eligible students receive their allowances directly into their personal bank accounts, streamlining the process and reducing delays.
