The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has encouraged all students whose 2025 funding applications were rejected to submit an appeal within 30 days of receiving their decision.

NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving learners enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. Funding from the bursary scheme covers tuition and registration fees, as well as several allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials.

Thousands Apply, Not All Successful

The 2025 NSFAS application window, which opened on 21 September 2024, concluded on 15 December 2024. During this period, NSFAS received a substantial number of applications: 890,599 for bursaries and 17,369 for loans.

Funding decisions have been finalised for over 200,000 students. Unfortunately, not all applicants were successful in securing funding.

Students who were not approved for funding are strongly encouraged to submit an appeal application to NSFAS. While there isn't a specific deadline for appeals, unsuccessful applicants have a 30-day window from the date they receive their funding decision to submit their appeal.
