The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a crucial source of financial support for South African students, offering bursaries and student loans to deserving learners enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges.
A key component of NSFAS funding is the provision of monthly allowances to assist students with living expenses, accommodation, transportation, and learning materials.
Which NSFAS Allowances Do TVET College Students Receive?
- Personal Care Allowance: All NSFAS-funded students are eligible.
- Transport Allowance: Available to students residing within 40 kilometers of their college.
- Accommodation Allowance: Provided to eligible students.
It's important to note that NSFAS covers tuition and registration fees in addition to these allowances.
NSFAS divides allowance payments into ten installments annually. Consequently, students will not receive any allowance payments in January 2025.
December and January are unique months in the NSFAS allowance cycle. Unlike other months, no allowances are disbursed during this period. The academic year typically commences in February and concludes in November, aligning with the ten-month allowance payment schedule.
