• Between 18 and 59 years old
• Live within the borders of South Africa
• Be registered on the Home Affairs database or Sassa's social grant database for individuals without ID documents
• Not living in a government Institution or subsidised institution
• Not receiving Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) Benefits or National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) support or any other social grants distributed by Sassa

Sassa Status Check For R350 Payment Dates

If you are UIF registered you will not be eligible to receive an SRD grant. You may also qualify for another grant, such as the old age pension, which you should apply for instead.

How To Submit A SASSA Appeal

4. Click Send “Pin”
5. Once you receive the pin, you will be required to insert it and click “Submit”

How SASSA SRD Grant Appeals Work

It is important to note that these appeal applications are no longer submitted directly to Sassa. Initially, Sassa handled the appeal applications when the grant was first introduced, but they no longer process appeals.

Instead, unsuccessful R350 grant applicants must submit a R350 grant appeal application to the Independent Tribunal For Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA). 

Once individuals have submitted their appeal application, the ITSAA then uses various databases to verify information provided to verify their eligibility for the grant. The databases are used to confirm personal information and income information as well.

Furthermore, applicants are advised that they will receive the outcome of their appeal applications between 60 to 90 days from when it was submitted. The decision made by the ITSAA are considered final.

How To Check Your R350 Grant Appeal

In order to check your SRD grant appeal you are required to do a SASSA status check on your appeal to make sure that you appeal hasn't got lost in the Sassa system.

To check on your SASSA grant appeal status you need to have your ID number with you. This is how you research your grant appeal and find out your grant appeal status.

Collect Your R350 Grant

There are a few options which SRD grant beneficiaries can choose from to collect their grant payments on their payment date:

Documents Needed When Collecting SRD Grant

Individuals will be required to validate that they are the beneficiary of the grant by producing proof of their identity and cellphone number when collecting their grant at a retail outlet. Beneficiaries need to ensure that this must be the same cellphone number that they used to register on the Sassa database, as a confirmation pin will be sent to this number to prevent fraud. 

How To Change your Srd.Sassa.gov.Za Banking Details for SRD Grant

It will happen sometimes that your bank account details change. You don't want someone else to get your grant so make sure you submit you new banking details to Sassa with your payment status via a Sassa status check.

1. Go to the SRD Sassa website at srd.sassa.gov.za

1. Confirm your nationality (Indicate whether you are a South African ID card holder or if you are an Asylum Seeker and Special Permit Holder). This is usually done with a South African ID Number.

2. Sassa reminds beneficiaries that the new bank details will only be used for future Sassa grant payment after it has been verified.

South Africa ID Holders Must

1. Scroll to “How do I change my banking details”.

3. An SMS containing a secure link, unique to you, will be sent to the phone number with which you registered during the application.

 Asylum Seekers and Special Permit Holders Must

1. Enter your asylum seeker File Number or permit holder Passport Number

This will enable you to lookup the Payment ID (which is different to your ID number) you can use to collect your Payment at Pick ‘n Pay or the Post Office (The Post Office no longer distributes the Sassa R350 grant). This is explained in the Sassa payment status section when you run a Sassa status check. In recent months many branches of the Post Office won't give out grants any more. This has made it even more important to change your bank details with Sassa so they can process your grant payments correctly.

You must provide your own banking account details as Sassa cannot pay grants into another person's bank account - only to the approved beneficiary. This is to ensure that the Sassa grant payment goes to the correct person and to avoid fraudulent activities. So make sure you give Sassa bank details of your own account only with your payment status.

If you are unsure then you should contact Sassa to make an enquiry about your grant and payments. This is important if the Post Office is not an option for you.

Those who select the money transfer option through a major bank, need to ensure that the cell phone number on which they received the SMS is registered in their name. Make sure you update your information if your banking details change. Your new bank account details need to be registered for your grant payments to continue. This is because Sassa (South African Social Security Agency) cannot provide assistance or pay their grant payments to a mobile phone number which is registered with another person.
