The University of South Africa (Unisa), the largest university in the country, has opened registration for the 2025 academic year. Aspiring students can now apply to study through Unisa’s renowned Open Distance e-Learning (ODeL) model.

Flexible Learning Through ODeL

Unisa’s ODeL approach allows students to pursue their qualifications remotely, without the need to attend traditional in-person classes. This model is ideal for individuals juggling work, personal commitments, or other lifestyle demands. The university also conducts most of its examinations online, making education more accessible.

Key Registration Dates

  • Undergraduate, Honours, and Postgraduate Diplomas
    Semester modules: 8 January – 21 February 2025
    Year modules: 8 January – 31 March 2025

  • Master’s and Doctoral Degrees
8 January – 31 March 2025 (with exceptions for certain qualifications)

  • Short Learning Programmes

Steps to Register

Students must first identify their preferred qualification and modules. After calculating tuition and other fees, they can complete the online registration form and pay the required fees to finalise enrolment.

It is essential for students to familiarise themselves with the ODeL platform and access their study materials to prepare for the academic year.

Only applicants who have received and accepted an offer of placement from Unisa can register. This rule applies to new applicants and current students changing qualifications. Returning students can register during the specified period, provided they have received their registration details from the university.
