Information and Cyber Security Internship

This opportunity will allow successful candidates to be involved in the research, conceptualization, design, development, testing, and/or maintenance of cybersecurity and identity management solutions with the aim to protect overall ICT assets in the public and private sector.

Requirements:

• A Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science/engineering or related fields;
• An Honours degree in information technology, computer science/engineering or related will be advantageous;
• Knowledge of Information and Cyber Security topics such as network security, mobile security, identity management, data security, web security, database security, governance, and/or cyber security in general;

Since South Africans are still living with COVID-19, SASSA had to come up with a plan as to how they would function during this pandemic. They decided that their offices would only be able to serve a certain number of people a day, which is why certain days have been set aside for Disability Grant applications.

The Disability Grant is provided by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) to help those with disabilities cover the basic costs of living. If you are interested in applying for the social grant, please note that applications take place on specific days at SASSA's offices.

Visit your nearest SASSA office to apply for the Disability Grant. Their offices will be open on Fridays to assist you with your application.

If on that day you do not feel well enough to travel, a family member or friend may apply on your behalf. All they need is a written letter by you, authorising the application.

To be eligible for the Disability Grant, you will need to meet the following requirements:

• You need to be a South African citizen, permanent resident or refugee.
• You need to reside in South Africa.
• You need to be 18 to 59 years of age.
• You need to submit a medical / assessment report confirming permanent, severe disability.
• Your medical assessment must not be older than 3 months at the date of application.
• You and your spouse need to meet the requirements of the means test.
• You can not be maintained or cared for in a State Institution.
• You can not receive another social grant.

When you arrive at the SASSA office to apply, be sure to bring along the following:

• Your South African identity document (ID), which must be bar-coded.
• Your salary slip, bank statements for 3 months, or pension slips, and any other proof of income.
• If you’re unemployed, your Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) card – "blue book" – or a discharge certificate from your previous employer.
• Proof of your medical assessment.
• You do not need any money to apply.

Your application will be completed at the SASSA offices. Once your application is completed, you will receive a receipt and you will need to keep it safe since it is your proof of application.

If your application is denied, you should be given the details in writing. You are welcome to request that SASSA reconsiders your application, within 90 days of receiving the outcome. If they still do not approve your application, you may appeal to the Minister of Social Development.

With the Department of Basic Education aiming for marking to be done in three weeks, concern has now surfaced as Covid can strike anytime and disrupt the marking processes. Marking of matric exam papers commenced on 4 January.

In Gauteng, it was seen that 800 markers did not arrive out of it's total for a variety of reasons.

The Eastern Cape reported that  74 people arrived that were positive but that doesn't speak to the number of people that did not pitch at all.

Executive Director of Teachers' Union, National Professional Teachers' Organisation of South Africa (NAPTOSA), said:

All the provinces have assured us that they have been able to replace those markers and that's good and well with this first batch of markers.

Concerns lie more with continuous infection as well as withdrawals which now might start happening. 

"We happy with all the processes in place but of course it is the unknown factors that we have to be concerned about because we will only know about them when they actually happen," explains Manuel as he says with markers not staying on site, this then increases the possibility of coming in with an infection.

Everything is said to be on track and there are hopes that this will stay for the next couple of days. 

The department even made sure to look at small details such as when markers are on breaks. DBE has said, "During meal and tea times, there would be not more than 50 persons in a particular area and meals will be provided in disposable containers so that markers can partake of their meals on the school grounds or wherever they consider to be safe."

Arrangements will also be made for health practitioners to be on site or within easy reach of the marking centres so that support and advice is available or to deal with any emergency that may arise.

Every marking centre has a Marking Centre Compliance Officer in place to ensure that there is strict adherence to the COVID-19 protocols and to also manage any COVID related situation.

Strict screening procedures are also practiced at the entrance of every marking centre and should any marking personnel display symptoms listed in the COVID-19 protocol, they will be retained in a temporary isolation room until advised by a Health Professional.

Social distancing, mask wearing, regular sanitation as well as other protocols are in place.

Marking will take place in 181 marking centres with more than 45,000 markers. They will be marking 14 million scripts in 18 days as the total number of 2020 candidates was 1 058 699.

Therefore, it is important to communicate efficiently and clearly so that the receiver at the end of the line understands the message that you are trying to convey. 
4. Another important skill that students can bring into the workplace is adding value to an employer, client or company. There are many ways in which students can add value through finding creative ways to become valuable to a business. For example, providing an efficient, fast and quality customer service.
5. Students must be able to think on their feet by being creative and adapting to various processes of the company. This way, students will also be able to develop their skills and be efficient in making decisions when they are faced with a challenge.
6. Networking is important in today's digitally driven world. Through networking, students are able to connect with people from different industries and gain insights and ideas from people. This way you can expand your network through exchanging information, knowledge and broaden your perspective of the corporate environment.

So there you have it, tips to bear in mind about how to take control of your future. It is important to learn accountability at a young age as it has a huge impact on your career and life choices. This will help you grow as an individual and become successful in the near future.

Should you have been funded by NSFAS when it was in the form of a loan scheme and you're now looking to repay your loan, here are the ways in which you can do so. 

All students who received a NSFAS loan before the president’s announcement of free education in December 2017 need to repay the loaned amount as per the signed loan agreement form. Should you have started funding with NSFAS in 2018 and thereafter, you have received a bursary and there's no need for you to pay NSFAS back.

You will only start repaying your loan once you have a salary of  R30 000 or more per year. No need to worry as the repayments are worked out at a rate that will not place a great burden on you and is based on your salary.

40% of a general loan is converted into a bursary if you pass all of the courses you were registered for in that year. 

If you applied at your institution's Financial Aid Office to be on the NSFAS Final-Year Programme, you will have your final-year loans converted into a 100% bursary if you pass all of your final-year courses and qualify to graduate.

Ways To Pay Debit Order

If you don't want to worry about remembering to pay your NSFAS loan every month, this is a good option for you. Just complete the electronic debit order form and submit it. To find the NSFAS debit form, click here. Complete this form and email it back to [email protected].

Adults who are interested in doing their matric may register at any provincial education office, which includes the provincial head office, the district office or a circuit office. Candidates can also register online via their website.

In order to register, you will need to submit the following:

• Completed registration form
• A certified copy of your ID document or birth certificate or passport (foreign candidates)
• Repeater candidates must attach a copy of their previous highest qualification
• If you have you entered and wrote any other Grade 12 or equivalent examination before you will need to supply the examination numbers for those exams.

The following candidates will qualify for admission to the Senior Certificate:

• Adult learners who are 21 years and older who have:
• a General Education and Training Certificate (GETC); or
• a Grade 9 school report (or the old standard seven), stating that they have passed Grade 9 or Standard 7; or
• a recognised equivalent qualification obtained at NQF Level which requires two official languages.
• Adult learners who are 21 years and older with an incomplete Senior Certificate qualification.
• Adult learners who are 21 years and older with an incomplete National Senior Certificate and whose School-Based Assessment (SBA) validity has expired.
• Only in exceptional cases, out of school youth, who are 18-21 years old and who could not complete their school education due to circumstances beyond their control, as verified by the Head of Department in the Provincial Education Department.
• Adult candidates who are 21 years and older with an incomplete NSC and whose School-Based Assessment component has not yet expired may choose to complete the NSC by registering in January for the 2020 NSC examinations to be written in November, or convert to the Senior Certificate.  Should the candidate choose to convert to the Senior Certificate, they may not revert to the NSC and attempt to complete the NSC qualification.
