SAADP is a Non-Profit Organisation established to actively and urgently address the problem of the acute shortage of black actuarial professionals in South Africa.

We do this by unearthing and harnessing mathematical and analytical skills amongst black students to expose and help them capitalise on career opportunities in the field of Actuarial Science.

Who should submit?

Matric learners

Current students

 

A certified copy of your South African ID or card – both sides

 

Certified copies of Grade 11 final report and Grade 12 (term 1, 2, and 3) reports.

 
 

Certified copy of Matric Statement of Results or National Senior Certificate (if available).

 
 

A copy of the provisional admission letter to a partner institution you applied to study at.

 
 

A recent academic transcript.

 

 

Any of the following proof of income of parent(s) and/or guardian(s):

·    Their/his/her certified copies of payslips.

·    Latest audited financial statements or an affidavit declaring monthly income if parents  

     are self-employed.

·    An affidavit done and signed by your parent(s) or guardian(s) if they are unemployed.

 

 

A certified copy of a death certificate or an affidavit in the case of deceased parent(s).

 

A certified copy of the divorce certificate in the case of divorced parents.

Candidate Requirements

STAGE 1

Pre-screening Applications will be screened to check if they meet the following basic requirements:

• Whether the application was submitted before or on the closing date (31 August).

SAADP may extend the closing date at its discretion.

• Whether the application has been completed in full.

• Whether the applicant has attached a Grade 11 final report and Grade 12 report showing term 1, 2, and 3 results (for Matric students only).

• Whether a final Statement of Results or National Senior Certificate has been submitted (for Matric students only).

• Whether the applicant has attached recent academic transcript (for current Actuarial Science students only).

• Whether the applicant has attached a recently certified ID copy or Birth Certificate (certified not earlier than 3 months ago).

• Whether your application meets the academic requirements for the university you intend to attend (for Matric learners only).

STAGE 2:

Shortlisting

• Applications that meet the requirements (in stage 1) will be forwarded to the Students’ Selection and Monitoring Committee – SSMC.

• The SSMC will screen applications further (NB: SAADP staff is not part of this process).

• Approved applications will be shortlisted, and the shortlist will be sent to the SAADP office for further processing.

• SAADP will communicate with only shortlisted applicants.

• Applicants that don’t receive any communication from SAADP at the end of February after having submitted their final Statements of Results/NSC must accept that their applications have been unsuccessful.

STAGE 3:

Submission of Statements of Results

• SAADP shall wait for the submission of final Statements of Results or NSC.

• It is the applicant’s responsibility to submit their final Statement of Results or NSC to SAADP at [email protected]

• Applicants that don’t submit their Statements of Results or NSC to SAADP shall be assumed to be no longer interested in the SAADP bursary and shall be removed from the shortlist (if shortlisted).

STAGE 4:

Selection interviews

• Shortlisted applicants from the Matric class that have submitted their final Statements of Results/NSC will be invited to attend a selection interview. Please note that the selection interviews may be conducted virtually should Covid-19 regulations be reintroduced.

• The selection interviews (for Matric applicants) are conducted by the SSMC. SAADP staff is not part of this interview process.

• Current Actuarial Science applicants will receive communication from SAADP advising them of the Selection Committee’s decision.

• Successful applicants will be notified (by SAADP) of their interview outcome.

• The decision by the SSMC is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

The programme is available to learners/students of South African Origin who are from historically disadvantaged backgrounds
The bursaries are limited to students who intend on studying at or are currently studying at the University of the Witwatersrand, University of Cape Town or the University of Pretoria,

Most of the information below is intended for applicants from the Matric class into the first year Actuarial Science class.
