Bursary Details: 

The National Arts Council of South Africa (NAC) was established in 1997 with the aim of promoting the free expression of cultures in South Africa, through arts.

The NAC is currently offering 2 types of bursaries:

1) Block Institutional bursaries – These are for Undergraduate studies These bursaries must be applied for by Institutional heads of department, for their undergraduate students. Students may not directly apply for these.

2) Individual bursaries – These are for Postgraduate studies. Students must apply directly to the NAC.

The bursaries will be awarded to students within the following fields of the Art faculty:

  • Dance
  • Theatre
  • Music
  • Multi-Discipline
  • Visual Arts
  • Craft
  • Literature

Candidate Requirements: 

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Completed Matric
  • Studying towards an Undergraduate or Postgraduate qualification in one of the aforementioned fields of study

You will need to register an account and apply online at https://nac.praxisgms.co.za 

If you are applying for the Institutional bursary,you will need to submit the following documents:

  • ID document (certified copy, no older than 3 months old)
  • Course outline
  • Fee structure
  • Annual academic report
  • Students banking details
  • Current student intake results
  • Student selection criteria
  • Tax clearance certificate
  • Audited financial statement

If you are applying for the Individual Postgraduate bursary, you will need to submit the following documents:

  • ID document (certified copy, no older than 3 months old)
  • Academic transcript or academic record
  • Proof of acceptance by tertiary institution
  • Course outline
  • Fee structure
  • Tertiary institutions banking details
  • Students banking details
  • Detailed Curriculum Vitae
  • 2 reference letters
  • Students proof of income (payslips/ affidavit if unemployed)
  • Parents/ guardians proof of income (payslips/ affidavit if unemployed)
