Are you interested in applying for the Funza Lushaka Bursary, however you are unsure if you qualify for the bursary since you were previously funded by NSFAS. Well, keep on reading to find out more.
The Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme aims to promote the teaching in public schools. They offer eligible students the opportunity to complete a teaching qualification in an area recognised as a priority.
The cost of studying at a university can be quite expensive, which is why bursaries, such as Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme, are so helpful to aid students in completing their studies without worrying about how they will cover the cost of studying.
The bursary covers student tuition fees, accommodation including meals, books, and learning materials. Students may possibly receive a monthly stipend to cover the costs of living expenses.
Since costs vary at different institutions, the total value of the bursary will not be the same for all students. Students are also reminded that the allocation of funds will be capped at a certain value.
Funza Lushaka Bursary funds the following studies:
- Bachelor of Education degree (BEd)
- Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
BEd is a four-year degree where the student will specialise in Foundation Phase (Grade R – 3), Intermediate Phase (Grade 4 – 6) or Senior and Further Education and Training Teaching (Grade 7-12).
PGCE is a one-year degree for graduates whose degrees reflect two priority subjects where one module/course was successfully completed or studied at a third-year level while the second priority subject was successfully completed or studied at the second-year level. Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme, however, only funds the PGCE Senior Phase and Further Education and Training Teaching (Grade 7-12).
For those students who were previously funded by NSFAS, may apply for the Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme to cover their future studies.
To qualify, the student needs to be accepted at a Higher Education institution to study either BEd or PGCE.
