Technical and vocational education and training (TVET) colleges allow students to further their education without completing matric. These institutions provide training for a wide range of sectors from areas such as hospitality, travel and tourism, primary health, engineering, agriculture, transport and logistics and many more.

These are the many sectors that require a certain level of skills and not university level of training. All TVET courses are registered with the Department of Higher Education and some courses are SETA accredited.

These institutions offer a variety of industry-related courses that focus on vocational and occupational education and training. It provides students with the necessary training and skills they require for a specific career field. Once students have the theoretical skills, they will be required to fulfill their practical training in the industry they have chosen in order to obtain their NQF Level 4 equivalent.

There are many TVET colleges available in South Africa. These institutions are aimed at students that are older than 16 years and have completed Grade 10. All students that wish to apply to a TVET institution need to complete an application form, have a copy of their ID and proof of residential address along with a copy of your final grade 9 results. Once all the required documents have been completed, students are required to write an entrance exam and attend an interview.
