What Do SETA Bursaries Cover?

The Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) bursaries aim first and foremost, to make a student’s tertiary education easier through funding. Hence, the SETA bursary covers a number of costs for a student.

The SETA bursaries provide financial assistance to students in need, so as to make it easier for necessary skills development to take place, as the student will be adequately supported in order to focus on their studies.

The criteria for qualification for a SETA bursary is more flexible than most, with both employed and unemployed students studying at any recognised public university in South Africa being able to apply.

Nonetheless, the bursary works slightly differently for employed and unemployed students, with funding being allocated as follows:

  • All students will have their tuition costs covered
  • All students will have their textbook costs covered
  • Only unemployed students will have accommodation and meals covered
  • Only PhD and Masters students will be allocated a travel and research allowance

It must be noted that applicants will still have to meet the financial aid requirements by needing to prove that they in fact are in need of funding assistance to be able to qualify for the bursary.
