Sasol Bursary Programme 2027: Applications Open for Engineering and Science Students
Applications for the SASOL Mainstream Bursary Programme are now open for the 2027 academic year. This bursary provides comprehensive financial support and development opportunities to students pursuing careers in engineering and science.
Application Period: 1 April 2026 – 17 May 2026
The bursary covers full-time university studies and includes both funding and ongoing support. After completing their studies, graduates may be considered for employment through Sasol’s Graduate Development Programmes.
Please note that this bursary includes a work-back/pay-back obligation. Applicants must have pure Mathematics, as Technical Maths/Maths Literacy is not accepted.

Sasol also funds postgraduate studies in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, supporting South Africa’s energy transition and circular economy.

- Chemical Engineering (Fluid Dynamics, Process Modelling, Reactor Technology, Thermodynamics, Separation Technology, Mathematical & Statistical Modelling)
- Chemistry (Analytical Chemistry, Catalysis, Polymer Science, Environmental Science)
- Cyber Security
- Data Science (Applied Mathematics, Statistics)
Applicants do not need a formal research proposal but should have a clear idea of their preferred study area. Successful candidates will work with Sasol experts and academic supervisors to finalise their research projects.
Important Requirements
- Must study full-time at a recognised South African university (distance learning institutions such as :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1} are not accepted)
- No combined or hybrid degrees will be funded
- Only one application per student is allowed
- Applicants must be under 30 years old
- All academic information and documents must be accurate and complete
Selection Process
The Sasol bursary is highly competitive, with limited spaces available. Selection is based on academic performance and alignment with Sasol’s business needs.
Applicants apply using their latest available results (e.g. Grade 11 for matric learners). Bursaries are awarded conditionally and confirmed once final results meet the required standard.
Any incorrect or misleading information may result in disqualification or withdrawal of the bursary.
