Bursary Details

The Transnet Bursary Programme is designed to build a talent pipeline of highly skilled professionals. The bursary is open to future or current university students who require study support in the scares and critical skills fields. Our bursaries are awarded annually to top-performing learners under the age of 25 years, pursuing qualifications that align with Transnet’s strategic objectives.

Current students and matric learners are encouraged to apply for one of the full time comprehensive bursaries in the following disciplines: Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, LLB (Property Law, Commerical law); Property studies / Real Estate; Geospatial; Supply Chain and Logistics; Horticulture

Candidate Requirements
  • Grade 12 Learners (SA Citizens only) with outstanding achievements, with a minimum APS score of five (5) in English, Mathematics and Physical Science.
  • Grade 12 Learners (SA Citizens only) with outstanding achievements, with a minimum APS score of five (5) in English and relevant subjects in line with the qualification

Conditions of Bursary

Students are required to render one year's service for every year of financial aid received from Transnet after acquiring the qualification.

Subjects failed must be repeated at student’s own cost. Termination of the bursary will be in consultation with the student and the training institution.

If the student fails to comply with the requirements of the bursary agreement, the bursary becomes payable in terms of the agreement.

The bursary will be renewed annually if the student’s academic performance is satisfactory.

Bursary Inclusion

The comprehensive bursary covers the following:

  • Tuition fees
  • Accommodation and meals
  • Book Allowance
  • Experiential training
  • Students are allowed to study at a South African University of their own choice who offers the relevant fields of study.​
