The University of South Africa (Unisa) is the largest distance-learning institution in the country. Courses offered at Unisa span several academic disciplines ranging from short courses to undergraduate qualifications and extend to postgraduate programmes.
Unisa offers several Postgraduate Diplomas and Honors Degrees.
The university understands that many graduates want to further their education but are unable to cover the costs of their particular courses. These students are welcome to apply for the postgraduate bursary offered by the institution.
The university offers a Postgraduate Diploma and Honours bursary allowing the institution's graduates to further their studies. The bursary only covers a student's tuition and registration fees and is for two consecutive years of the student's course.
This bursary will not pay historic debt and will not cover any failed or repeating modules.
Who Can Apply For The Unisa Postgraduate Bursary?
Only South African citizens who are NQF Level 7 undergraduates alumni who have completed their degree or advanced diploma can apply for the Unisa postgraduate bursary. Only applicants who achieved an average of 60% of their undergraduate qualification may apply for this bursary.
South African Postgraduate and Honours students in their second year of study who have passed at least three postgraduate modules in the same Postgraduate qualification can apply for the Unisa postgraduate bursary.
Not all students who meet the qualifying criteria for the bursary will be funded. This is because the bursary is subject to the availability of funds. Students with a higher average of their entire undergraduate qualification will be prioritised.
The bursary won’t automatically be granted for the second year of the postgraduate qualification. Bursary recipients are required to reapply for the bursary in their second year of postgraduate studies.
