Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) aims to the raise the skills base in a certain sector. They do this by managing and creating learnerships, internships, unit-based skills programmes, and apprenticeships within their sector.
Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande described SETAs as matchmakers between formal educational institutions and industries. There are 21 SETAs in South Africa each of which is responsible for a different sector.
Agricultural Sector Education and Training Authority (AgriSETA) wants to enable a skilled and prosperous agricultural sector.
To achieve this, AgriSETA creates opportunities for social, economic and employment growth in the agricultural sector by funding learning programmes. Individuals can apply for grants, internships and bursaries on the AgriSETA website or an accredited AgriSETA service provider.
It's important to note that AgriSETA does not fund individuals. Applications for the ArgriSETA must be submitted through an accredited training provider, who will be providing the training or qualification. Therefore, a recipient or learner must apply through the relevant employer or training provider.
The AgriSETA Bursary Application
The AgriSETA bursary application form can be downloaded from their website. The form indicates that training providers must apply for Discretionary Grants from AgriSETA.
The application consists of three sections. They are…

- Details of students including their qualifications and the institution they are registered at
- Motivation why the student should receive the bursary
AgriSETA Bursary Ins and Outs
- Only agricultural-related qualifications shall be supported for unemployed learners while only levy-paying companies can apply for other qualifications supporting their enterprises.
- Bursary funding is from NQF Level 6 onwards, AgriSETA will not fund short courses.
- No funding shall be provided to students who receive funding from other Government sources, e.g. NSFAS, NSF, SETAs & other Funders
- Applicants who have been funded the previous year and would like to continue with the same qualification, are to re-apply (Continuations)
- R39,750 (Undergraduate)/per Learner
- R63,600 (Post Graduate)/per Learner
Funds are allocated to employers and training providers who focus on sectoral priorities.
