The University of South Africa (Unisa), with many students relying on the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), has clarified the April 2025 allowance disbursement process.
NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving students enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. This funding covers tuition and registration fees. Students also receive several allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials.
Unisa has confirmed that starting in April 2025, qualifying NSFAS-funded students will receive their allowances on the 29th of each month. Therefore, the April 2025 payments will commence on 29 April.
Unisa has paid over 92,000 student their March 2025 NSFAS allowances, with the remaining 78,000 to be paid by 31 March 2025, contingent on certain factors. Unisa will contact students with outstanding issues.
Unisa will distribute NSFAS allowances via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) directly into students' bank accounts for the first six months of 2025, consistent with their standard payment procedures.
Students with incorrect or missing allowances should contact the Unisa student funding department at DSF-NSFAS [at] unisa.ac.za (DSF-NSFAS[at]unisa[dot]ac[dot]za).
To ensure timely payments, students must accurately capture their bank details via the link sent to their myLife email. Bank accounts must be registered in the student's name, as they will be verified against the student's Unisa ID number; third-party accounts will not be accepted.
Students are advised to regularly check their bank verification status and promptly address any resubmission requests to avoid payment delays.
