The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS)
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a government bursary that offers financial assistance to millions of South Africa's students. The scheme provides funding for undergraduate qualifications at both universities and TVET colleges.
Students who gain approval for NSFAS funding have their tuition and accommodation fees paid over, and provides allowances for study materials, groceries and other expenses.
Students can apply for a NSFAS bursary online, via the scheme's official website.
How To Submit Your NSFAS Online Application
- Create a myNsfas account
- If you have an existing myNsfas account, click on 'login' when going to myNsfas and complete your information
- If you don't have a myNsfas account, click on 'Create account'
- Log into your myNsfas account
- Click on 'Apply'
- Answer the questions on the screen
- Upload the required supporting documents
- Click on 'Submit'
- You will then receive an application reference number

Anglo-American
Anglo American Platinum’s bursary and scholarship schemes give young professionals an entry point into the company, the mining industry, and the job market.
The company offers bursaries for a number of engineering qualifications, including electrical engineering.
Electrical Engineering Bursary
- Current Grade 12 learners must submit their final Grade 11 results (Mathematics, Science and English with 60% pass rate), stamped by the school.
- 1st year students: Grade 12 (Mathematics, Science and English with 60% pass rate). Applied and Accepted - 1st year Diploma / Degree Electrical (Heavy Current) Engineering, certified copy of Grade 12 certificate with Mathematics, Science and English with 60% pass rate and acceptance letter at a university.
- 2nd year students: Registered as a 1st year currently studying must have passed all modules registered for
- 3rd year students: Must be currently completing 2nd year and pass all modules and must have passed all subjects you are currently registered for at tertiary institution.
- 4th year students: Must be currently completing 3rd year and pass all modules and must have passed all subjects you are currently registered for at tertiary institution.
Sappi
Sappi awards a number of bursaries each year based on the company's annual skills audit and business needs. It's bursary scheme is intended to cater for talented and innovative young South African citizens.
Applicants who meet the minimum criteria are invited to a selection interview.
Sappi funds the following fields of study:

Sappi's eligibility requirements include:
School leavers or university students between 18 - 25 years old who are studying or intending to study full time at any South African accredited university
- South African citizenship
- An average of 70% in Mathematics (not Maths Literacy), 70–80% in Physical Science and 60% in English and
- Qualifying points for entrance at the university or acceptance confirmation
Current university results will be considered for undergraduate students. Note that preference will be given to learners with an average of 75% and above in Mathematics and Physical Science.
Masakh’iSizwe Bursary Programme
Masakh’iSizwe offers bursaries for full-time studies towards a degree or diploma in the transport, engineering and built environment disciplines, amongst others, which includes:
