How Much Does NRF Give For Postgrad Funding?

NRF provides funding for postgraduate students for studies that they will be expected to complete in a fixed number of years. Exceptions can be made for an extension for Master's and Doctorate students. 

NRF aims to promote and support research through funding. The NRF has recently launched a new funding model for postgrad funding: Full Cost of Study and Partial Cost of Study.

What is the period and monetary value for funding support?

Maximum Period of Support

Honours: 1 year

Master's: 2 years

Doctoral: 3 years

Honours: R150 735

Master's: R169 158

Doctoral: R176 196

Maximum Funding Values for Partial Cost of Study Per Year

Honours: R117 735

Master's: R112 158

Doctoral: R101 196

The NRF does not fund Part-time Master's and Doctoral studies as of right now. Part-time Honours is funded, but only through the Graduate Internship programme.
