Failing matric can make a student feel as though their whole world is crashing down on them. Although that is a valid response, it is still important to remember that bad results are not the end of the road and that there are always other options.
Some of your options include:
- You can do the supplementary examinations
- You are able to send your examination papers for either a re-mark or re-check
- Returning to school and re-registering for matric
- Registering at another school to complete matric
- Completing matric via distance learning
Since finishing matric can open a lot of doors for you, it is recommended that you do find another way to complete it. However, if a student does not manage to do so, there are some study and employment options for students without their matric.
Study options include enrolling in short courses to be taught basic fundamentals of a specific career area, such as accounting, beauty, marketing, human resources, tourism, creative writing, wedding planning, interior decorating, and so on. Students can also study towards qualifications supported by the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB) or Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
Furthermore, in the job department, some sales or retail work, general assistant, childcare, bookkeeping, events management work, etc, can be pursued without matric. You can read our article about second chances for matrics here which explains how to apply for re-writes or upgrading your matric subjects.
