The South African government introduced the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) bursary to help eligible students further their studies at higher education institutions in South Africa.
Since the University of Limpopo is among the 26 public universities funded by the bursary, students who are looking for funding to attend the university may apply to NSFAS.
NSFAS only funds undergraduate programmes at public tertiary institutions and not postgraduate qualifications.
Approved students receive funding from NSFAS to cover registration costs, tuition fees, accommodation and the following allowances:
- Transport
- Textbooks and other learning materials
- Meals
- Living expenses
The bursary has no age limit, so anyone who meets the requirements may apply to NSFAS.
South African students with a combined household income of no more than R350 000 per year are eligible for funding. Persons with disabilities with a combined household income of R600 000 or less per annum.
Applicants who receive Sassa grants may also apply for the bursary.
