Pursuing tertiary education is an expensive journey, no matter where you choose to study.
Luckily, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) also provides funding to students enrolled within Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges, not only to university students.

For students who want to study at TVET Colleges there are multiple NSFAS application periods. These are linked to whether the TVET courses that the student will attend will be a full-year course, or if it is trimester or semester based.
It is essential to make sure you apply at the right time, as an application for one TVET period is not transferrable to another period.
Trimester 2 Funding
If you want funding for a course that starts in trimester 2 NSFAS applications will open on the 6th May 2026 and close on the 18th May.
Semester 2 Funding
For funding of courses that start in semester 2 NSFAS bursary applications will open on the 1st July 2026 and close on the 17th July.
Occupational Programme Funding
A big focus from 2026 is the roll out of Occupational Programmes at TVET Colleges across the country, and they will be a second intake for the second half of the year. Funding applications for these programmes in the 2nd intake will open on the 1st July and close on the 17th July.
Trimester 3 Funding
Funding applications for courses that start in the third trimester will open on the 3rd September and close on the 14th September 2026.
Funding applications are not transferable so if you apply for one funding period, but then want to start at another time, you will need to make a new application.
NSFAS provides its student beneficiaries with monthly allowances to help cover the costs that come with studying tertiary education. These allowances include transport, accommodation, living allowances and a few others, depending on which tertiary institution the student attends.
