The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has published the 2025 Eligibility Criteria and Conditions for its Student Loan Scheme, outlining the allowances available to loan recipients.
NSFAS offers financial support through bursaries and student loans to eligible students enrolled in accredited university and TVET college programmes. This funding covers tuition and registration fees, along with allowances for accommodation, food, and learning materials.
While most allowances available to NSFAS bursary recipients are also provided to loan recipients, there is one key exception.
Allowances Not Included in NSFAS Loans
NSFAS loans help eligible students cover essential study-related costs, including tuition fees, learning materials, and accommodation. However, the scheme has confirmed that transport allowances are not included in loan funding.
The loan provided will cover tuition, books, and accommodation allowances only. Transport allowance is not provided for as part of the loan funding.
As a result, students will need to cover their own transportation expenses, including travel to and from their institution and any academic-related travel.
