The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has launched its appeals process for 2025. This gives students whose bursary or loan applications were rejected the opportunity to appeal the decision.
NSFAS offers bursaries and student loans to eligible students enrolled in approved programmes at universities and TVET colleges. This funding covers tuition, registration fees, and includes allowances for accommodation, food, and learning materials.
Students Given 30 Days to Lodge Appeals
Students may submit an appeal within 30 days of receiving a rejection or withdrawal notice. While the appeal allows for a review of the original decision, final outcomes are subject to NSFAS’s budget availability.
Only students who have submitted a funding application may lodge an appeal. It is vital to submit all required supporting documents to improve the chances of a successful outcome.

NSFAS clarified that appeals are only available to students who originally applied for funding. Appeals are not permitted under the following conditions:
-
Enrolment in unfunded programmes
-
Exceeding the N+2 or N+3 academic limits

Applications from students who previously took a gap year and were denied

Students experiencing registration issues must contact their respective institutions directly for resolution.
