NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving students enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. This funding covers tuition and registration fees and several allowances are paid to students for food, accommodation, and learning materials.
Hundreds of students will receive NSFAS loans for the 2025 academic year. However, NSFAS has confirmed that these loans are subject to annual renewal, meaning students do not need to reapply each year.
Loan Renewal Conditions
The renewal of NSFAS loans depends on academic performance and available funding. Students must maintain the required academic standards throughout their studies to remain eligible.
NSFAS emphasised that students who fail to meet these academic requirements risk losing their funding. Beneficiaries are also required to repay the loan upon completing their studies.
Reapplication Required for Dropouts
Students who previously received an NSFAS loan but deregistered or dropped out must reapply if they wish to resume their studies.
NSFAS explained, "Students who de-register or drop out during an academic term and wish to resume their studies in future academic terms must re-apply."
