Here’s What Your ‘Appeal Approved’ NSFAS Status Means



It is important that you understand your NSFAS application status when you have applied for NSFAS funding. Here's what your 'Appeal Approved' applications status means.

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) offers to fund students who would like to study at a tertiary institute but come from poor or working-class backgrounds

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme receives thousands of applications during the academic year and it is estimated that more than 80% of applicants are first time applicants.

Many first time applicants may not understand what their NSFAS applications status means but if you are an applicant who has the 'Appeal Approved' status, this is what it means.

According to an NSFAS Twitter response:

Should you receive an 'Appeal Approved' Status as the outcome of your appeal, this simply means that you have been provisionally approved pending final approval from NSFAS. 

Students are urged to continuously track their NSFAS status on their myNSFAS portal as there is no set date for when the application status will change.

How to track your myNSFAS application status: 

  1. Log in to your myNSFAS account on the myNSFAS student portal here 
  2. Enter your username and password and sign in
  3. Click on Track Funding Progress

Applicants who have unsuccessful applications are allowed to appeal their NSFAS application within 30 days of being denied funding.

During this NSFAS appeal process, applicants are urged to submit any further required supporting documents to ensure that they increase their chances of having a successful appeal.
