The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a bursary funded by the government to support students who require financial support to study at public universities or TVET colleges.
For many years, NSFAS has been assisting students who are in need by covering the cost of their tuition fees, registration costs, and allowances.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all students needed to study from home, which was not easy for many students as not everyone had access to a laptop or internet. Therefore, NSFAS stepped in to help these students by providing them with data and laptops.
If you are one of these students, you may apply for a laptop online.
Before you are able to apply, you will need to be registered at an NSFAS accredited institution, which includes TVET colleges and public universities.
How to apply for a laptop:
- Collect, complete and submit a Digital Learning Device (DLD) form to your Financial Aid Office on campus.
- Order your laptop on the DLD online order portal via the NSFAS website.
- Click here to visit the NSFAS website.
- Select myNSFAS.
- Click on the Online Order portal to place your order.
- You may be required to provide the name of your tertiary institution, a contact number, an alternate contact number and an alternative email address.
NSFAS and your tertiary institution will verify your details as well as your order.
Once the verification process has been completed, an order for your laptop will be placed with NSFAS service providers to dispatch the device for delivery.
You will be contacted by the laptop service provider or your institution to arrange collection, once your laptop is ready.
No one will be allowed to collect the laptop on your behalf, as you will need to sign for the laptop. Be sure to bring your ID or birth certificate and proof of academic registration or student card along when collecting your device.
You will need to agree to the terms and conditions as set out by your institution and sign the acknowledgement receipt before you receive your device.
