The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) will provide comprehensive bursaries to more than one million students during the 2023 academic year. The scheme says institutions currently have access to a list that confirms funding for all students who met the NSFAS eligibility criteria.
NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries to students from poor and working-class backgrounds enrolled in approved programmes at public universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges.
The NSFAS Funding List
NSFAS revealed that the updated list of funded students for the 2023 academic year is currently accessible by institutions. These institutions can use the list to confirm whether a student is being funded by NSFAS for the current academic year.
The NSFAS funding list contains funding information for students who will receive NSFAS funding for the first time in 2023 as well as returning students.
Institutions can view the funding list and confirm whether or not a student is funded for the 2023 academic year.
They explained that the funding list is part of an ongoing process which reviews appeals against third-party information to ensure that all students in need of financial aid can access funding.
NSFAS further revealed that the funding list will be updated as they conclude appeal applications received from students. The use of third-party databases is being used to ensure that only deserving students receive funding from NSFAS.
Decisions on appeals are also being finalised upon receipt of third-party reports.
If students are approved for funding, their bursary will cover their tuition and registration fees. Students will also receive a learning material allowance, a living allowance and an accommodation allowance.
