The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has announced the deployment of staff and resources to college campuses across the country. This initiative aims to facilitate a seamless start to the 2025 academic year.
NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving students enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. NSFAS funding covers tuition and registration fees, as well as several allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials.
Staff Deployment to Institutions
NSFAS will station servicing administrators, student accommodation officials, and graduate interns at institutions in all provinces. This deployment will take place from 13 January 2025 to 7 March 2025, as outlined in NSFAS Circular 13 of 2024, issued on 7 January 2025.
The placement of these resources is designed to provide direct assistance to students with queries requiring NSFAS’ attention. This is part of a broader effort to enhance student support services for beneficiaries.
Graduate Recruitment Drive
To bolster its support efforts, NSFAS recently concluded a graduate recruitment drive, successfully appointing interns to assist financial aid administrators with bursary-related tasks. These graduates are currently undergoing training to equip them with the necessary skills to assist students effectively.
Applicants Urged to Submit Supporting Documents
NSFAS has called on students who have applied for funding to upload their supporting documents promptly. Applicants have 30 days to submit their documents from the date of receiving communication.
Students are urged not to wait for the deadline and to submit their documents immediately via the myNSFAS portal. Application statuses can also be tracked through channels such as WhatsApp (078 519 8006), USSD (12067327#), or email at info [at] nsfas.org.za.
No Registration Fees Required
NSFAS has reminded students that they are not required to pay registration fees to institutions until they receive confirmation of their funding. Applicants are advised to await official communication on the final decision.
Fraud Alert
The scheme has issued a warning for students to remain vigilant against fraudsters impersonating NSFAS officials. Any suspicious activity can be reported to the NSFAS ethics and fraud hotline at 0800 007 396.
