In the past few years, students have been utilising the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) for internet access and also to receive assistance when applying for funding through the government bursary scheme.
In 2022, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) opened its online applications system with improvements, being adapted to be more simple and user-friendly for applicants with similar usability as other platforms that prospective applicants are accustomed to, such as WhatsApp.
However, in some instances, using an app is not enough as some students may also need to ask for information from someone who is a NSFAS official.
Sunday World reported that at the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) Colloquium, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Dr. Blade Nzimande announced:
We are going to be establishing regional NSFAS offices nationally.
However, the details of where the first offices will be, will be worked out by NSFAS in consultation with the Higher Education department.
The bursary scheme regional offices will assist in dealing with the complaints that students will raise, and students will be able to walk into any of these offices to get information and get an update on any issue.
The new NSFAS office is located 4 Christiaan Barnard street in the Cape Town City Centre. This new office address comes after the bursary scheme's relocation from its offices in Wynberg, Cape Town.
The reason behind this relocation was that more space was needed for students to be able to use the new NSFAS student centre.
