The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has officially announced the scheduled payment date for accommodation allowances for April 2025, setting the processing for April 17th. In a crucial call to action, NSFAS is urging all accommodation providers, encompassing both institutional and private entities, to submit comprehensive student registration data by the critical deadline of April 9th. This timely submission is paramount to ensure the seamless and uninterrupted disbursement of allowance payments.
NSFAS, a vital lifeline for countless students across South Africa, offers comprehensive bursaries and student loans to eligible students enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. Unlike other allowances that are directly transferred to students, accommodation allowances are paid directly to the providers.
To facilitate this process, NSFAS requires accommodation providers to submit detailed lists of students residing in accredited housing. This ensures accurate and efficient payment processing.
"Payments will still be processed based on the registration template submitted by the institutions," NSFAS stated, emphasizing the importance of adherence to established procedures.
Specifically, private accommodation providers are required to submit detailed student lists for all students residing in NSFAS-accredited housing. Similarly, universities and TVET colleges are mandated to confirm student residency within their institutional accommodations.
NSFAS has also issued a call for the reporting of any unlisted students residing in accredited accommodations, stating that they will "work collaboratively...to rectify any discrepancies" to ensure all eligible students are accounted for.
In addition to the data submission request, NSFAS has issued a strong appeal to accommodation providers to refrain from evicting students due to unpaid rent. They have also urged providers to adhere to established claim submission guidelines.
