Sol Plaatje University (SPU) is one of the 26 public universities in South Africa that the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) bursary funds.
NSFAS covers registration, tuition and accommodation fees, in addition to the following allowances:
- Learning materials and textbooks
- Transport
- Meals
- Living expenses
The bursary funds students from underprivileged households who wish to study at public tertiary institutions. These students need to meet the following criteria.
NSFAS bursary requirements:
- South African citizen or permanent resident.
- All Sassa grant recipients are eligible to apply.
- Combined household income of R350 000 or less per annum.
- Persons with disabilities with a combined household income of no more than R600 000 per year.
Students who would like to study at SPU will need to apply to the university first and then be eligible for NSFAS funding.
Approved students need to comply with all academic requirements as set by tertiary institutions.
The bursary requires students to attend all their lectures, do their assignments and pass all their modules.
Only undergraduate students are eligible for funding from NSFAS. These students may be of any age as NSFAS does not have an age limit.
