Vega is an educational brand that forms part of the Independent Institute of Education and was established in 1999.
The institution is registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training as a private higher education institution under the Higher Education Act 1997.
The School offers qualifications of a high standard and focuses on brand leadership and management, brand strategy, innovation and creative brand communication design.
They aim to create graduates who are capable of creating a change by finding strategic solutions to brand challenges in society and business.
Unfortunately, NSFAS does not fund Vega courses, because it is a private tertiary educational institution and NSFAS only funds public universities and TVET colleges.
However, Vega does provide their students with discounts and financial support.
Applications for financial assistance is available to students who will be registering for higher certificates, second and third-year degrees and postgraduate qualifications for one year up to a maximum of 50%.
These applications will be considered on an individual case by case basis.
Vega students or prospective students may also apply for the Bright Star Merit Award. All they need to do is fill in the Bright Star Merit Award application form and submit it to the institution.
Students may collect the form from their Contact Navigator or Relationship Navigator at Vega.
The award provides students with a fee reduction based on academic achievement in their matric year or undergraduate qualification. Specific details about the award may be found on the registration contract.
The deadline for the merit award is at the end of February of every year.
Leadership Awards are also awarded to students during their first year of registration. The award provides students with discounts based on the leadership position that they held in high school.
The leadership award discounts are as follows:
- Head Prefect: A discount of R6000 is awarded to a student who held the position of Head Prefect or equivalent.
- Deputy Head Prefect: A discount of R3500 is awarded to a student who held the position of Deputy Head Prefect or equivalent.
- Prefect: A discount of R2500 is awarded to a student who held the position of Prefect or equivalent.
In order to receive this award, students need to attach confirmation of their leadership position from their high school.
There are also other options for financial assistance such as Fundi Educational Loan and Summit Educational Trust.
Fundi Educational Loan will cover a range of expenses to provide students with an opportunity to pursue their studies without experiencing the financial burden while doing so.

The Summit Educational Trust offers financial aid by offering bursaries to underprivileged South Africans who might not otherwise have access to education. Their focus includes applicants from all IIE-Vega campuses.
