In South Africa, there are a number of government-funded bursary options available for prospective students. However, these bursaries tend to support students who are looking to study at public tertiary institutions, leaving fewer options for private college funding.
This, however, does not mean that one would not be able to find some good bursary resources. The following is a short list of bursary options available for students looking to study teaching at a private institution of learning:
ADvTECH Student Teacher Bursary
Being the largest private education provider on the continent, the ADvTECH organisation has created a Student Teacher Bursary programme for future teachers. This particular program, offers third and fourth year teaching students an opportunity to enrol in the bursary program at one of the following private schools:
- Trinity House Heritage Hill Preparatory (in Centurion, Gauteng)
- Trinity House Heritage Hill Pre-Primary (in Centurion, Gauteng)
- Trinity house Preparatory Little Falls (in Roodepoort, Gauteng)
Students studying the following teaching qualifications are encouraged to apply:
- African Languages First Additional Language
- Early Childhood Development
- Foundation Phase
- Mathematics
- Science
The programme does not provide funding for a specific private institution of learning. However, with it being open to students studying at any recognised institution in South Africa, the student teacher program that forms a part of the bursary fund will still take place at one of the three Trinity Hill private institutions, and will prepare the student for teaching at either of the private institutions organised by ADvTECH.
Brain-Jar Skills Development Bursary
The company offers bursaries to students looking to study a National Diploma in Early Childhood Development at Brain-Jar Skills Development (pty) Ltd in Pretoria, Gauteng. Applicants for the programme must meet the following requirements:
- Student must have completed matric
- Student must meet the NQ-5 Early Child Development requirements
- Student must submit the application form along with all necessary documents to the following email address: [email protected]
Unfortunately, private college bursaries for an education qualification can be hard to come by, but apart from the above-mentioned programmes, it may also be helpful for prospective students to explore scholarships or bursaries within the specific private colleges that they would like to pursue instead of pursuing general education bursaries.
As such, what may be further helpful for students to do when looking for private college funding, is to visit the individual institution of study that they would like to study at and see if they have any available scholarship and bursary programmes. This can be done through the ADvTECH bursaries page found here.
The student will find each individual institution under the ADvTECH organisation and click each one individually to see if there are any available bursary options to fulfil their education and teaching qualification pursuits.
