Officially established in 2014, the University of Mpumalanga is one the country’s youngest public universities, and so if you reside within the province or closer to it, studying at UMP is likely to be more appealing to you.

Scholarships, bursaries, and loans, which are administered and managed by the university’s Student Financial Aid team, are among the forms of student funding assistance that the UMP offers to students, according to the institution's website.
The National Student Financial Scheme (Nsfas) is one of the bursaries that UMP students can apply for as it is available to students enrolled in all of the country’s public universities.
UMP prospective students who are pursuing an undergraduate degree in Education can also apply for the Funza Lushaka Bursary as it is also available to all 26 public universities throughout the country.
The university is also due to have its own internal bursary scheme, namely the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship which is a scholarship programme that is targeted towards students who show strong academic potential and perform above average.
These scholarships will be granted to entering and existing undergraduate students for the duration of their study programme.
The scholarship's continuation from one year to the next will be based on how well winners continue to perform in the areas of academic studies, student and personal leadership, and community involvement.
The scholarships are meant to pay for books, a laptop, accommodation, and food in addition to tuition.
The Vice-Scholarship Chancellor's recipients will also take part in programmes specifically created to advance their leadership and personal development. They will also be assigned a mentor to help them throughout their years of study at UMP.
The DSI CSIR Interbursary Support Programme is another bursary programme that full-time UMP postgraduate students can apply for.
