The following are just a few of the bursaries that prospective Health and Medical students in Gauteng can apply for:

  • Gauteng Department of Health Bursary - Offered by South Africa’s Department of Health, this bursary aims to aid the development of students’ skills in the Healthcare sector. Some fields of study being funded by this option include: Dentistry, Radiotherapy, Optometry, Medical Practice Clinical, Engineering Clinical, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy, Oral Hygiene, Medicine and Surgery, and more. The bursary caters specifically to South African students from disadvantaged backgrounds, who average at least a C in their matric year.   • City of Johannesburg Bursary - Available to full-time undergraduate students residing and studying in the city of Johannesburg, this bursary option offers funding for a number of fields, including medicine (nursing). The bursary provides up to R35 000 per year for study resources, registration fees, and tuition fees. The application form can be found here.
  • City of Ekurhuleni Bursary - This bursary option is available for all students residing in the Ekurhuleni district of Gauteng. Along with funding a number of other fields of study, the bursary also covers degrees and diplomas in the Medical Science field, basing their application criteria on applicants’ academic records and financial need.
