As the 2026 academic year draws near, many South African students are excited to embark on their higher education journey. For those who haven't yet secured a spot at a university or college, the Central Applications Clearing House (CACH) is here to help. This year there is a new version called CAS.

Are you a prospective student looking to further your studies?

The Central Application Clearing House (CACH) is your one-stop shop for finding available spaces at universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges across South Africa.

This year the CACH has been upgraded to the Central Application Service, or CAS.

“The Central Application Service is designed as a more comprehensive, integrated and long-term solution addressing access, improved visibility of opportunities across the entire Post-School Education and Training system, and the elimination of bogus institutions at this time of the year,” the department said.

The department added that the Central Application Service will progressively make various alternative pathways visible over and above the traditional university and college pathways.

“This approach recognises the reality that current capacity within universities and colleges is not sufficient to meet the growing demand for post-school education and training,” the department said.

Because young people who want to study make multiple applications, when they chose their eventual course, the spaces reserved for them on other courses will open up. These courses could be the first choice for many who haven't secured a place yet. CACH gets information directly from the colleges and universities about which courses still have places. They can then advise you were you can make a last minute application.

CACH 2025 applications for 2025 will open on 19th January 2026 and will close on 31 March 2026.

Why Use CACH/CAS?

  • Increased Chances of Admission: CACH connects you with institutions that have unfilled spaces.
  • Streamlined Application Process: Apply to multiple institutions simultaneously.
  • Personalized Recommendations: CACH's advanced matching algorithms suggest courses and institutions tailored to your academic background and career goals.

We just facilitate you, and assist you with the facilitation of your applications. Once you're done with CACH, your relationship will be between you and the institution.

How to Register for CAS

  1. Visit the CAS Website: Go to the official CAS website.
  2. Sign Up: Locate the sign-up section on the homepage.
  3. Complete the Registration Form: Fill out the form with accurate personal and academic information.

No documents are required, as CAS receives matric results directly from the Department of Basic Education.

Once you've registered, the CAS system will match you with suitable institutions. If you're a good fit, the institution will contact you directly.
