The Department of Basic Education (DBE) is calling on the public to report any suspected corruption or nepotism in the selection process for Phase 5 of the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI), which offers over 200,000 job opportunities.
Eligibility for teaching assistant positions is based on proximity to schools, relevant qualifications, and meeting specific job requirements.
Available roles include Reading Champions, Reading Assistants, e-Cadres/ICT Assistants, Curriculum Support Assistants (CSAs), Handypersons, Sports and Enrichment Assistants, Laboratory Assistants, and Workshop Assistants. Each role carries distinct responsibilities and eligibility criteria.
No individual should be selected based on personal connections or favouritism.
How to Report Suspected Corruption
The DBE encourages individuals to email reports of corruption to beei [at] dbe.gov.za (beei[at]dbe[dot]gov[dot]za). Complaints should include:
- Name and location of the school
- Date and time of the incident
- Names of those involved (if known)
- A detailed description of the incident
- Any supporting evidence
The department stressed that specific and accurate details are essential for effective investigation and action.

Interview Process Underway
Shortlisted candidates will receive SMS invitations for interviews from either their prospective schools or Provincial Education Departments (PEDs) between 19 and 31 May 2025.
The shortlisting process, based on eligibility ranking, concludes on 18 May 2025. Interviews mark the final step before appointments under BEEI Phase 5 are confirmed.
