The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has announced the timeline for the fifth phase of the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI), which outlines when successful applicants will start their roles.
Phase 5 of the BEEI aims to create over 200,000 job opportunities in schools across South Africa. Available positions include Reading Champions, Reading Assistants, e-Cadres/ICT Assistants, Curriculum Support Assistants (CSAs), Handypersons, Sports and Enrichment Assistants, Laboratory Assistants, and Workshop Assistants.
When Will Teaching Assistants Start Working?
The DBE has confirmed that successful candidates will begin work on 2 June 2025. They will receive a monthly stipend of R4,000 for six months, along with an additional R30 for data usage.
Interview and Contracting Process
The application ranking process, based on the eligibility criteria, is currently underway and will conclude by 18 May 2025. Shortlisting will take place between 19 and 26 May 2025.
Shortlisted candidates will receive an SMS invitation to attend an interview from either the school or the relevant Provincial Education Department (PED) between 19 and 31 May 2025.
The final stage of the recruitment process involves contracting the selected candidates. The DBE expects all selections and contracts to be finalised by 31 May 2025.
