The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) confirmed the payment methods for university allowances in April 2025, providing essential information for students.
NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving students enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. This funding covers tuition and registration fees. Students also receive several allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials
The scheme confirmed that university allowances for April 2025 will be disbursed through the respective universities. This follows an announcement made in the latter half of 2024 regarding a change from the previous NSFAS Bank Account system.
Reason for Payment Method
Initially, NSFAS had planned to pay allowances directly into students' personal bank accounts. However, this implementation has been delayed due to an ongoing legal matter. Consequently, universities will continue to facilitate these payments in April 2025.
Allowances of students will be paid based on an approved NSFAS payment channel.
Students are advised that each university may have its own specific protocols for processing and distributing these allowance payments. To ensure the timely and accurate receipt of funds, it is crucial for students to contact their university's financial aid office.
For April 2025, university students should liaise directly with their institution's financial aid department for information regarding the processing and disbursement of their NSFAS allowances.
