The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has issued a 30-day deadline for students to upload their required documents for funding. Failure to meet this deadline will result in the student losing their funding.
NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving students enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. NSFAS funding covers tuition and registration fees, as well as several allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials
The 30-day period begins from the date NSFAS requests the documents. Students who do not upload the required documents within this timeframe will have their 2025 applications declared invalid.
Urgent Notice to Applicants
Your application will be deemed invalid if you fail to upload the supporting documents within the 30-day deadline. We strongly urge all applicants with outstanding documents to submit them immediately.

- Submit your documents.
Once the documents are uploaded, students can revisit the myNSFAS portal to check the status of their application.
Which Documents Does NSFAS Require?
The required documents depend on the applicant’s circumstances. Below are examples of documents NSFAS may request:
- NSFAS Declaration Form: Completed by the school principal or a social worker (for non-SASSA applicants).
- Orphan/Vulnerable Child Declaration Form: Completed by a social worker (for applicants under 18 years old).
- NSFAS Consent Form: Completed by the applicant and/or their parent(s), guardian, or spouse (not required for SASSA recipients).
- Court-Issued Document: Proves guardianship when a legal guardian is indicated.
- NSFAS Declaration Form (Non-Court Appointed Guardianship): Completed by the applicant if the guardianship is not court-appointed.
- Disability Annexure Form: Completed by a certified medical professional (e.g., a medical doctor, optometrist, physiotherapist, or head of a disability unit). This form verifies the student’s disability status, outlines the support needed, and explains how the suggested support will benefit the student.
It’s important to note that feedback on application status will only be provided after all required documents have been submitted and verified.
Additionally, NSFAS has confirmed that SASSA grant beneficiaries are exempt from submitting supporting documents.
