Thousands of students have just two months left to apply for public tertiary education funding from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme. Submitting the correct documents is vitally important for a successful application.

The  National Student Financial Aid Scheme (Nsfas) funding application period for the 2023 academic year is open. Students around the country who intend to study at a public tertiary education student in South Africa can apply for funding.

Successful Nsfas bursary applicants’ will have their tuition and accommodation fees paid for. They will also receive transport, stationery and living allowances from Nsfas.

To qualify for Nsfas bursaries, students must come from homes where the household income does not exceed R350,000 per annum. Students who have a disability can have a household income not exceeding R600,000.

Students can apply for Nsfas bursaries on the Nsfas Website. Students will need to submit specific documentation to ensure their applications can be processed by Nsfas.

Here Are The Documents Needed For Your 2023 Nsfas Application.

  • A copy of your ID or birth certificate.
  • ID copies of parents, guardian or spouse (or death certificate where applicable).
  • Marriage certificate (where applicable).
  • Your proof of income or 1 year’s IRP5 (if applicable).
  • Your parents, guardian or spouse’s proof of income (if you are a Sassa grant recipient, no proof of income is required)
  • Applicants with a disability must submit a completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form

Applicants who are recognised as a Vulnerable Child by the Department of Social Development must provide a completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form.

If you are an orphan and are older than 18 years of age must submit a non-Sassa declaration form.

Students are advised to upload the necessary documents as directed by the platform. Students are also reminded that no affidavits will be accepted.

The Nsfas system may require you to submit supporting documents if information you provided does not correlate with third party information. This as Nsfas verifies all the information you provide to ensure you are deserving of funding.
