Students studying at public universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges can apply for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (Nsfas) on the official website.
All students must create a myNsfas account before they can submit a 2023 Nsfas application. The myNsfas portal is used by students to access and manage important information related to Nsfas.
Here’s How To Apply For Nsfas 2023
- Login into your myNsfas account
- Enter the information required by Nsfas
- Click on ‘Apply’
- Fill in the details that apply to you (fathers details and/or mothers details and/or guardians' details and/or spouse's details for married students) and Click Next once you have captured all the details
- Once you have completed all required fields and steps, you must upload the necessary documents,
- Once you have uploaded all the necessary documents, Click 'Next'
- Confirm that the details and the documents you provided are correct and click ‘submit’
Nsfas provides bursaries to students from poor and working-class households. The scheme uses a household income threshold as its main eligibility criteria. Students from families that exceed the stipulated household income thresholds will not qualify for Nsfas funding.
The household income threshold for able-bodied students is R350,000. Students with disabilities may have a combined household income not exceeding R600,000. Students who began studying before 2018 can have a combined household income of R122,000 or less.
Beneficiaries of South Africa Social Security Agency (Sassa) grants qualify for Nsfas bursaries.
Nsfas funding applications for the 2023 academic year will close on January 31, 2023.
