The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a bursary funded by the government that provides funding to underprivileged students, who would like to attend any of the 50 TVET colleges or 26 public universities in the country.
NSFAS covers registration fees, tuition and a number of other allowances to help students while they study. These allowances cover learning materials, accommodation, transport and other living expenses.
In the Western Cape, students may apply for the bursary online or with help from an application centre.
How to apply online:
- Click here to visit the NSFAS website.
- Create a myNSFAS account.
- Click on ‘Apply’ and update your information and upload the necessary documentation.
- Submit your application.
Students who need assistance with applying for the bursary may apply at any of these application centres:
- Shop P 18a Piazza, Golden Acre, Adderley Street, Cape Town, Western Cape
- NYDA District Office: 1 Ngesi Avenue, Sidesaviwa, Beaufort West. Western Cape
- NYDA District Office: 1st Floor, Old Mutual building, Corner York and Hibernia Street, George. Western Cape
Those in Cape Town may visit the NSFAS walk-in centre found at House Cloete, Brodie Road in Wynberg for assistance with their bursary application. This centre is open from 09:00 till 16:30.
Applicants may also visit Thusong Centres located throughout the Western Cape for help with their NSFAS applications.
