Annually, thousands of public university and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College students receive funding for their education from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (Nsfas).

The Higher Education sector has revealed that the demand for funding has increased as well, and it is for this reason that prospective students apply for more than one bursary.

There are instances that institutions do not allow a student to be funded by more than one donor. If you are a student that has applied to more than one bursary and would like to withdraw you funding application with Nsfas, then waste no time and follow these easy steps:

  1. Login to your myNsfas portal.
  2. Click Track Funding Progress.
  3. Click Cancel Application.

You will need to follow the first two steps to also track your funding application for the academic period that you applied for.

Depending on the application that you have received, then you will be able to determine what is your next step.

For Nsfas to be able to even begin to verify your application and provide you with your outcome, you will need to have submitted the required documents to be able to be considered for funding.

Your Nsfas application may be declined for a number of reasons, such as not meeting the qualifying criteria, which include:

  • Being a South African citizen
  • Sassa grant recipient
  • Having a household must have a combined household income of not more than R350 000 per annum.
  • People with disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
  • Students who started studying before 2018 whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.

If you are not satisfied with the response that you have received from the Scheme, then you may consider lodging an appeal with Nsfas to be reconsidered for funding.
