How To Submit A DHET Bursary Application

The DHET bursary, also known as the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) bursary offers financial assistance to deserving students wishing to study at various Universities or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges in the country.

Students who want to apply for the DHET bursary can do so via the Nsfas website. 

The first step in applying for funding is to create a myNsfas account.

Applicants will be able to apply for DHET funding, track the application status and cancel applications all via their myNsfas account.

Here’s a guide on how to apply for a DHET bursary:

1. Create a myNsfas account 
   • If you have an existing myNsfas account, click on 'login' when going to myNsfas and complete your information
   • If you don't have a myNsfas account, click on 'Create account'
2. Log into your myNsfas account
3. Click on 'Apply'
4. Answer the set of questions on the screen
5. Upload the required supporting documents
6. Click on 'Submit'
7. You will then receive an application reference number

Nsfas applicants can the pause the application process and continue at a later stage without restarting from scratch.

Here’s what’s needed to complete the application:

• Your own cellphone number and email address
• Copy of your ID or birth certificate
• ID copies of parents, guardian, or spouse (If applicable)
• Your proof of income or 1 year’s IRP5 (if applicable)
• Your parents, guardian or spouse’s proof of income
• If you are a SASSA grant recipient, no proof of income will be required
• Applicants with a disability must submit a completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form
• An applicant who is recognised as a Vulnerable Child by the Department of Social Development must provide a completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form
