The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has recently announced its allowance payment plan for the remainder of the year, specifically focusing on students enrolled in TVET colleges. This new system aims to streamline the process and reduce costs for both the scheme and students.
NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to eligible TVET college students. This includes funding for tuition, registration fees, and allowances for living expenses, accommodation/transport, and learning materials.
Direct Bank Deposits for TVET College Allowances
Since May 2024, all NSFAS-funded TVET college students have been receiving their allowances directly into their personal bank accounts. This convenient method allows students to manage their finances independently.
The new allowance payment system has significantly reduced costs for NSFAS. Each transaction previously cost NSFAS R22, and students R10.
By transitioning to direct bank deposits, NSFAS has streamlined the process and minimized expenses.
To ensure timely receipt of allowances, TVET college students must upload their banking details on the myNSFAS portal. NSFAS has urged students to promptly complete this process, as delays may occur if details are not submitted.
Steps to Upload Bank Details
- Visit the myNSFAS portal: Access the portal using your myNSFAS credentials.
- Select "Bank Account Details": Navigate to the "Profile Information" section and choose this option.
- Enter your bank details: Provide your bank account information accurately.

NSFAS's new allowance payment system for TVET college students offers greater convenience and efficiency. By following the outlined steps to submit banking details, students can ensure uninterrupted receipt of their allowances and make the most of their educational journey.
