NSFAS allowances are issued in 10 monthly instalments during the academic year, typically from February to November. No payments are made outside this period.
Student allowances will be paid via an approved NSFAS payment channel.
NSFAS Allowance Payments in June 2025
In 2024, university students received their allowances through their institutions, while TVET College students were paid directly into their personal bank accounts.
For 2025, TVET College students will continue receiving payments via direct deposit. NSFAS advises students to keep their banking details updated on the myNSFAS portal.
TVET College students will be paid via personal bank accounts. Colleges are urged to help NSFAS-funded students open accounts at any South African bank.
NSFAS had planned to introduce direct payments for university students in 2025, but implementation has been delayed due to an ongoing court case. Until further notice, universities will continue to disburse allowances on NSFAS’s behalf.
Universities receive funds from NSFAS and then pay eligible students, but payment schedules and processes may vary between institutions. NSFAS recommends that students check with their university for details.
